Lent 2026:
Duration: 40 days (not counting Sundays) starting Feb 18 and concluding before the evening Mass of the Lord's Supper on April 2.
Fasting and Abstinence (Catholic): Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fasting (one full meal, two smaller ones) and abstinence from meat. Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence from meat.
Purpose: It is a time for self-reflection, repentance, and spiritual discipline to prepare for the celebration of Christ's Resurrection at Easter.
Observances: Beyond fasting, participants often engage in "giving up" luxuries, increasing charitable giving (almsgiving), and deeper Bible study.
While rooted in Catholic tradition, many Christian denominations observe Lent to varying degrees, using the period to refocus on their faith and prepare their hearts for Easter.
